Philosophy, the Political, and Politics of Translation in the Modern Islamic World

Einen philosophischen Text zu übersetzen, das ist ein komplexer Prozess, der linguistische, kulturelle, historische und politische Überlegungen beinhaltet. Und eine Übersetzung hat wiederum Auswirkungen darauf, wie ein Text verstanden und rezipiert wird. Das Wissenschaftliche Netzwerk Philosophy in the Modern Islamic World untersucht dies genauer. Wissenschaftler*innen aus der Philosophie, Anthropologie, Sozialwissenschaften und den Theologien aus den USA, Indonesien, der Schweiz, Iran, der Türkei und dem Senegal kommen zusammen und befassen sich mit verschiedenen Aspekten der Übersetzung in der Philosophie, darunter Konzeptkonstruktion, historische Übersetzungsphänomene und Übersetzungspolitik.

Die Konferenz wird organisiert durch das Wissenschaftliche Netzwerk Philosophy in the Modern Islamic World in Zusammenarbeit mit dem ZMO Berlin und co²libri und ist gefördert durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, die Ruhr-Universität Bochum und die Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.

The translation of a philosophical text is a complex process that involves linguistic, cultural, historical and political considerations. And a translation also has an influence on how a text is understood and received. The academic network Philosophy in the Modern Islamic World will explore this in more detail. Scholars from the fields of philosophy, anthropology, social sciences and theology from the USA, Indonesia, Switzerland, Iran, Turkey and Senegal will come together to examine various aspects of translation in philosophy, including the construction of concepts, historical translation phenomena and the politics of translation.

The conference is organized by the scholarly network Philosophy in the Modern Islamic World together with ZMO Berlin and co²libri and is supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
